This tradition was maintained even in difficult times in Palanga. Dr. Jonas Šliūpas, who was mayor of Palanga from 1933 to 1939, said in a newspaper of that time that "although those summer orchestra concerts are an expensive pleasure, they will remain forever."
Today, "Palanga Orchestra" remains a living link connecting this old tradition of European culture, Palanga of Counts Tiškevicius and the modern resort and its guests.
With the concerts of the Orchestra of Summer, Palanga Orchestra aims to actualize the tradition of orchestral music, emphasize its value, influence on the formation of the resort's cultural identity, provide knowledge and achieve a larger, more engaging dialogue with the audience.
This year, on summer Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, in a total of 33 concerts, three musical programs will be presented, telling different musical stories, and they will be complemented by talks and meetings, which will make the experience with the orchestra even more enriching.
Vygantas Rekašius, the artistic director and chief conductor of the Palanga Orchestra, conducts the summer concerts of the Orchestra.
Free "Orchestra Summer" concerts are given to you by: Palanga City Municipality, Palanga Birutė Park and "Palanga Orchestra".
The project is partially financed by the Lithuanian Council of Culture.
Concerts do not take place when it rains.
