CONCEPTS OF THE SONATA OF LIFE
Dedication to M. K. Čiurlionis
Programme
Piano works by M. K. Čiurlionis; letters by the composer.
Actress Virginija Kochanskytė's concerts at Užutrakis Palace need no introduction: her staged programmes, when the hall feels like an aristocratic musical-literary salon, attract all those who are interested in the work and life of our famous artists and the origins of their creative impulses. The staging of this concert is romantic, dialogical, emotional, playful, involving the audience in the discussions of the art salon, and its artistic idea is close to that of M.K. Čiurlionis himself, who, during his life in Warsaw, was welcomed in the city's grand salons because of his ability to create an interesting and effective evening.
In music, the term "sonata" means something that "rings out". The concert will feature the piano works of M. K. Čiurlionis - preludes, mazurkas, sonatas and others. But the artist's work also includes his spiritual experiences, thoughts, feelings, sometimes even everyday phenomena and domestic details. Čiurlionis' epistolary work is particularly sensitive to this - his letters testify to his great talent as a writer, which was further developed in his essays, musicological articles and poems. The programme will include readings of the composer's little-known letters to his parents, his brother, Prince M.K. Oginski, his lover, and his friends.
From the fragments of the composer's literary and musical works, a portrait of the composer and a mosaic of his life's journey will be drawn. Together with the audience, the actress will search for the echo of the letters' thoughts in the music, and, through the artist's work, for the things that direct the vital forces in a person towards a creative life - the caretaker, the family, the home, nature, love, art...
