Opis wydarzenia
Just as in the 16th century Moscow's aggressive policy towards its neighbours led to the emergence of the Republic of the Two Nations (the treaty signed in Lublin in 1569), so in the progressive 21st century, the invasion of war into the blissful world of personal problems has brought us - Ukrainians, Poles, Lithuanians living in Russia's neighbourhood - back to the situation of those times, reminding us of the experience of historic partnership and mutual help in the face of an existential threat. Only by acting together can we survive and resist a much stronger enemy. The initiator of the Lublin Triangle Residency was Genadyi Kozub, a long-standing organiser of contemporary art residencies on Biruchyi Island in Crimea, highly regarded in the Ukrainian art world. After the annexation of Crimea, the Biruchyi Residency was forcibly moved to the west, where it has been active in artistic activities and international cooperation since 2016. Her projects show that art is a very important tool for the analysis of historical memory and processes of decolonisation, as well as for human compassion and support. In May 2024, artists from Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania were invited to the Biruchyi-Borowiec Art Residence near Lublin (Poland) to seek mutual dialogue, to share reflections on common/shared historical experiences, present experiences, past and future visions. During the residency, works were created, reflecting on contemporary existence from different angles/approaches. The exhibition will be on view in the White Corridor of the Old Palace of the Vilnius Academy of Arts (Maironio g. 6, Vilnius) until 20 December.
