Violinist Lina Juknevičiūtė and pianist Inga Vyšniauskaitė meet on stage to perform colorful, theatrical musical works that are rarely performed in Lithuania, surrounded by myths and legends.
The performers will start the concert with one of the plays that brought Lina Juknevičiūta the Grand Prix award at the 2021 Bali Dvarion International Competition for Violinists and Pianists. This is Bali Dvarion's Sonata-Ballad. Composer Antanas Budriūnas described this one-part work as follows: "... while listening, it seemed to me that I had fallen into the world's most wonderful Botanical Garden. How beautiful the flowers bloom here, how impressive the leaves of the trees are, how calm the surface of the evening lake is. And here I see people stumbling near abandoned chapels. Even the hustle and bustle of everyday life cannot disturb that state of peace and beauty."
Unlike all three composers in the concert program, Johannes Brahms did not compose program music, and he completed his last sonata for violin and piano already in his late years. Having already written all the major works, such as concertos and symphonies, Brahms once again proves his mastery of combining drama and lyricism. It is not for nothing that the third sonata is one of the most appreciated works in the repertoire of violin and piano sonatas.
"Mitai" by Karolis Szymanowski, one of the most outstanding Polish composers of the 20th century, takes you to another natural oasis - Greece. Myths tell of the Nymph Arethusa turning into a spring of water; Narcissus, in love with himself and the God Pan, seducing the Dryads with the sounds of his flute.
At the end of the concert, the audience will have the opportunity to swim along the romantic water channels, see the famous Venetian carnival and listen to Nicolo Paganini's "Carnival of Venice" performed for the first time in Lithuania (arranged by Albert Markov).
