we invite you to an intoxicating and psychedelic concert by Rəhman Məmmədli (Mountains of Tongues / Bongo Joe), a legend of the Azerbaijani guitar music subculture from Baku.
Together with him, the maestro's son Tural Mammadli (keyboards) and Seymur Yagubov (percussion) will take to the stage of the Kirtim Culture Center.
_________
Rəhman Məmmədli's psychedelic guitar work took shape during one of the most tumultuous and strange periods in Azerbaijan's history, reflecting both the spirit and the contradictions of that time. Since then, he has become a symbol of Azerbaijani guitar music, a unique subculture inspired by the traditions of traditional music and formed around the electric guitar.
Alongside Rustam Quliyev, whose Azerbaijan Gitara (Bongo Joe Records, 2020) introduced the West to this unique genre that often sounds like Surf Music to the untrained ear, Rəhman is an absolute icon of the style, often shredding for hours on end live on social media in networks.
Rəhman was born in the Fuzuli district of Karabakh and grew up surrounded by and immersed in the music of that region. After just a few days with a guitar in his hands, he was able to play a variety of tunes and was soon invited to join the Karabakh ensemble as its guitarist. He began releasing albums as a solo artist in the 1990s.
Being closely related to traditional music, both mugham and ashiq traditions, he was able to transfer these genres to the electric guitar, creating new and distinctive playing techniques.
