"America in the bathhouse" is the first one-part performance in Lithuania performed publicly in the Lithuanian language based on the play of the same name by Keturakis, which after almost 125 years has been adapted to modern theater and turned into a musical comedy for the audience! The audience is invited to search for the historical and contemporary identity of Lithuanians while listening to the musical interludes of the composer Kristupas Biržietis. The comedy wittily presents the formation of Lithuanian national self-awareness and the deep spirit of patriotism, the origins of which are often hidden in the countryside, but in the truest province. The author of scenography, Renata Valčik, skillfully creates the atmosphere of such a province in the performance - the scenery is created from used car tires, which stand for furniture, accessories and other household items. And the swans ingeniously twisted out of tires and painted in bright colors are the truest evidence of the province's artistic tastelessness, disarming even the biggest skeptics. There are also plenty of other painfully recognizable signs of the modern Lithuanian countryside that will make many people smile.
The prevailing grotesque genre in the play allows the actors not only to be bright in their make-up or costumes, skillfully perform vocal parts, but also to improvise if necessary, so the comedy takes the viewer to the frenzy of youth, full of lightness, humorous games and freedom. However, the main idea remains the same as in the days of Keturakis - it is always good only where we are not!
