"Bacchantes: Act" - performance, 5th century. transferring the tragedy of Euripides, created before our era, to a universal time, in which the characteristics of lust, power, cult and the crowd following the leader exist in every society and culture. "Bacchantes: Act" XXI century. the interpretation goes back to the roots of theater art, bringing the ritual back to the stage. Rituals that have permeated from the oldest to the most modern civilization here take the form of stage expression and open the field of interpretations for the themes of the play. In the play of the Athenian tragedian, which ended the golden age of this ancient Greek city, the revenge of Dionysus, the god of wine and ecstasy, described in today's context, continues to encourage thinking about the individual's personal and collective responsibility, the nature of civilization and culture, and the struggle between rationality and irrationality.
In the performance that transfers Euripides' tragedy to today's stage, director Ieva Stundžytė and choreographer Eglė Kančauskaitė rely heavily on the primal element of theater - ritual, so as the premiere approaches, the creators shared their thoughts on how the creations of our imagination and subconsciousness - superstitions, dreams and rituals - live in the theater and those who work in it in people's everyday life.
