This group was formed to record the soundtrack for the Latvian film Dream Team 1935, which tells the story of the Latvian basketball team that won the first European Basketball Championship in 1935. The recording process and the result were so successful that the band members decided to continue playing together.
The band's activities go beyond traditional Dixieland music, as they also pursue a new, more creative approach, arranging and performing a variety of styles of music, using the instrumentation of a traditional Dixieland band. One of the most exciting and successful programmes - A Journey to Dixieland - includes modern pop music (M. Jackson, A-Ha, Robbie Williams, etc.) in Dixieland arrangements. Another programme, The Bustling 1920s in Latvia, focuses on early Latvian jazz music from the 1930s.
Dream Team has played at many Latvian jazz festivals, such as Rigas Ritmi, Saulkrasti Jazz, and International Dixieland Festival in Umurga. The band frequently performs in Latvian radio studios, performs in Riga and all over Latvia, and plays in jazz clubs both locally and abroad.
