"Vilnius Sarabanda" (words by Kristina Sabaliauskaitė, world premiere)
Tonight, a special premiere will take place at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic - a joint piece of music dedicated to the 700th anniversary of Vilnius, "Vilnius Sarabanda", will be presented by composer, conductor Gediminas Gelgotas and writer, art critic, author of many books, Kristina Sabaliauskaitė. At the request of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, they joined forces: G. Gelgotas wrote the music, K. Sabaliauskaitė - the text. Both authors are real citizens of Vilnius, both awarded the St. Christopher's statue, given to the most deserving people of the city of Vilnius.
The artists met only recently, but have already tried their hand at joint creation. They admit to having a similar creative temperament, communicating with each other almost without words and daring each other to enter their creative laboratory.
K. Sabaliauskaitė: "We really didn't want any directness and entrenched, maybe slightly worn images, symbols of Vilnius and so on; we go more to such a subconscious, intuitive layer." G. Gelgotas: "I don't even want to create, because this word seems to impose your opinion, but to broadcast, to reflect the sound of Vilnius. I told Kristina that it must be very intuitive: impressions, emotions, revealing what Vilnius is. The creative process is not over yet - both the music and the text are still being written, we are both working. Until the first rehearsal, it will not be clear what the piece is. I want music to grab a person and hold them until the last minute.
The concert is partially financed from the funds of the National Program of the Ministry of Culture
