W. A. Mozart. Concertone for two violins and symphony orchestra in C major, K. 190
E. Elgar. "E.Elgar's Enigma Variations, Op. 36
Charismatic violin primus Zbigniew Levickis and one of the finest bassoonists in Lithuania, Andrius Puplauskis, together with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, invite you to experience a spectacular journey through the world of the violin and bassoon. The guest guest of the anniversary concert is violinist Konradas Levickis, concertmaster of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra.
The evening will begin with the performance of the bassoonist Andrius Puplauskis in the bassoon Concerto for bassoon "Five Sacred Trees" by the American composer John Williams (born 1932). The work was written especially for the 150th anniversary of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra's bassoon concertmaster Judith LeClair. Each of the five movements of the concerto is dedicated to a different mythical ancient Celtic tree.
Z. Levickis and K. Levickis will play Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (1756-1791) enchanting Concertone (Italian for "great concerto") for two violins and symphony orchestra. Musicologist Alexander Hyatt King wrote of this work, written in Italy: "In this work, the old genre takes on a new soul - the baroque instruments of the concerto grosso are perfectly in tune with the new galant style."
In the second part of the concert, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will play the Enigma Variations of British composer Edward Elgar (1857-1934). The 14 variations "encode" portraits of people dear to the composer - from his wife Alice to Elgar himself. The work, first performed in London in 1899, won Elgar international acclaim.
This evening, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Martynas Staškus, conductor of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
