The play "Chestnut" is based on the story of the same name by the literary classic A. Chekhov, published in the 19th century. at the end and recognized by literary critics as one of the most talented stories about animals for children. This is a sensitive story about a lost girl named Kaštona, who found refuge in a family of circus artists, but at a decisive moment exchanged the glory of her revealed talent for a return to her old masters.
According to the decision of the director A. Lebeliūnas, unlike in A. Chekhov's story, the characters of the play were given a human form. Kalaitė, Žąsina, Katina and Pig are embodied in the performance by children (actors) who live in the modern world and have lost their homes for various reasons. In the circus world full of miracles, fantasy and glory, which they enter, there is no lack of warmth and patron's love. But the greatest desire of the little unfortunates is to return to the home they never stopped longing for, dreaming about, dreaming about. Actors portraying children in the performance create double roles - of a child (on a live plane) and a doll, symbolizing the inner "I". The puppet controlled by each character is the key to his own life story, which the viewer will have the opportunity to identify with, "check" and recognize his own feelings.
"We promise an interesting, colorful in terms of emotions, but not an entertaining performance. This is a story intended for the family, encouraging to talk with children about complex, but inevitable life experiences and laws: losses, loneliness, separation... Here the viewer will not find morals, fun, simple stories that accompany children's performances - the production creates a realistic, unadorned image of the world, allowing the child to experience something he probably hasn't experienced yet" (dir. A. Lebeliūnas).
