Staging based on Leo Tolstoy's short story "Kreutzer Sonata"
Some consider Leo Tolstoy's short story "The Kreutzer Sonata" to be his best work, others, on the other hand, oppose the ideas he expresses there. This scandalous work combines passionate love, jealousy and social criticism.
The train starts a conversation about love, the position of women, domestic conflicts and violence. A long-silent passenger opens up about his unhappy marriage. He married a much younger woman who charmed him with her youthful beauty and innocence. Five children were born to them. However, the man is disillusioned with love and marriage because the couple's relationship is full of quarrels, arguments and strife. He confesses that he is jealous and hateful because of his wife's close association and music-making with a violinist and kills her.
The confession of the man who murdered his wife is recounted by the classic Russian writer Leo Tolstoy in his short story "The Kreutzer Sonata". Balancing feminism and hatred of women, the writer touches on a number of topical themes: family relations, gender equality, love, passion and violence. A published short story caused an international scandal because of its ideas on marriage and family values, and was banned in both Russia and the USA.
"The Kreutzer Sonata, which looks at human relationships, love, sex, jealousy and paranoia, is revived on the stage of the Klaipėda Youth Theatre. The story depicts the conflict between sexual desire and moral constraints, and raises questions that are often silent, unwilling or impossible to answer.
