The plot of the play is based on the drama of Kaunas University student Juozas Lukša's experiences, search for truth and freedom in the post-war years. The end of the war does not bring the long-awaited calm and peace. The son of a small farmer, Juozas, a student at the University of Kaunas, returns to his studies, naively hoping that Lithuanian intellectuals will one way or another manage to find a way out and avoid the "red plague", but the reality turns out to be more cruel and Juozas and his friends decide to stop their studies and go out into the forest to be partisans, yes hoping to win freedom for Lithuania. Unfortunately, Juozas witnesses the death of many of his friends, and his dreams of freedom are destined to be shattered. Partisan Juoz's tragic life story is told by his loyal friend the puppy Kudlius - a completely fictional character. According to the play's director A. Sunklodaitė, she was inspired to discover this character by her own dog raised at home: "I wanted to find such a creature that would be very human, that would perfectly understand what loneliness and attachment are, and that would know that hope is the last to die." "Kudlius and forest brothers" is a play full of hope, adventure, sadness and pride about a person's choice to be free. Without any compromises or reservations. "Is that possible? What is the price of that freedom?", the creators of the production think. The performance is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the Lithuanian state.
