In the piece two contrasting worlds – DanseSport and contemporary dance – meet. Awkward, humorous, and even absurd situations are born as these genres encounter.
DanceSport cannot be imagined without strictly male-female couples and synchronized team movement while contemporary dance allows more freedom for individual expression and gender roles. Like mirrors to each other they highlight the essential – our need for another and for individuality, for belonging and for freedom.
In “La CALASH La Latin-LT” DanceSport poses and choreographer’s Palle Granhøj signature obstruction technique are used to create a frame for movement development. It allows the transformation and limitation of dancers’ actions and reveals deep layers of personality as well as specific physicality of each performer.
No matter which dance genre you are a fan of, the piece will draw you into the playful, curious atmosphere, created by a diverse group of performers.
This performance is based on “La CALASH La Latin” – a piece premiered in Denmark in 1997 that brought international success for the choreographer Palle Granhøj with more than 100 performances worldwide. In 2022 the piece is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
“La CALASH La Latin-LT” is exclusively created to and together with Šeiko Dance Company and is based on the same idea, frame and music, but focuses on discussion about partnering in dance.
