Director Anna Karasinska does not want to call "Easy Things" a performance, rather a work or an analysis. The two actresses on stage talk in a calm tone, almost whispering, about themselves, the theater, professional dreams, desires, dreams and disappointments. The stories heard are, on the one hand, extremely personal, on the other hand, they reflect the experience and truth of theatrical life. During the performance, the spoken text of the actors changes after each performance of the work, this action is determined not only by the used improvisational format, but also by the new experiences of the actors and the director. Thus, "Easy Things" is a constantly alive, constantly re-creating work that stands outside the schemes of classical theater.
The play assumes that being watched is part of the acting experience, but many of us could name a situation where we felt closely scrutinized. To put it mildly, the people around us frame us, define us, name who we are or what we can become with their looks. And how are our own gazes directed at ourselves? After all, they perform the same function.
The performance with a minimalist format, but with maximum evocativeness, received great appreciation in Poland - in November 2022, it was awarded the Grand Prix prize of the most important Polish theater festival Boska comedy in Krakow, this performance from the little-known Olsztyn theater received invitations to many important European festivals, and also regularly travels in Poland.
About the developer:
Anna Karasinska is a Polish director of the middle generation, whose strength is the ability to speak sensitively, accurately, firmly about extremely fragile things. Born and raised in Łódź, this creator simultaneously studied directing at the famous Łódź Film School and philosophy at the University of Łódź. Cinematography and philosophy always distinguish her works from others, as well as her work methodology - she improvises a lot with the actors, and then writes down the texts that appeared during the improvisations and works with them until they turn into a certain essence - the actors themselves on stage.
