"Those who do not remember the mistakes of the past are condemned to repeat them." (George Santayana)
The play "Land of Rain" is a biographical improvisation based on the life stories of the people sitting in the circle. The actors of the theater laboratory convey the life stories of people connected by the interwar and postwar events, which touched each of them personally, using the creative principle of "Open Circle". The performance does not seek to accurately recreate the biographies of the people who lived in that period in a documentary way - the actors are looking for ways to talk to those people here and now. Theatrical language. Through yourself about others. About the past while living today, but thinking about the future.
"Land of Rain" is stories, people's destinies, a certain period that was close to our parents, grandparents, which we know from some official documents, articles, school textbooks, but it is very difficult for us to realize that all this is near us. "Land of Rain" - as if to remind you that everything can happen again at any time, maybe not as painfully, but an emergency is always a potential. I am talking about the war years, about young people who went to the army, to the forests. And it can't necessarily be applied to the interwar or postwar years, I just want to ask how the people of our earth would behave in any and especially unpredictable situation. This topic of the war years is touched on in Lithuania very categorically - through the sides of the righteous and the unjust. I wanted to look at all this from the human side, for example, how a person comes to one or another decision and how those decisions change his fate." - Aidas Giniotis
The performance is intended to commemorate the 70th anniversary of mass deportations of Lithuanian residents.
