February 2-7. ContemPlay, the third international festival-workshop of contemporary experimental and improvisational music, will take place in Vilnius on February 2 and 7, 2018. Together with the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Lithuanian Ensemble Network, the team of the ambassadors of improvisational music and free jazz - "Improdimensija" - is joining in the realisation of this festival.
February 5. "Dominykas Norkus, saxophonist and winner of the 2024 Vilnius Jazz Young Power Grand Prix, will perform on the ContmPlay stage. Norkus combines both acoustic saxophone sound and inspiration from the electronic treasure trove of sounds.
On the ContemPlay stage, Norkus will present his original chamber work Philanthropy. It is a work based on microtonal analysis for electronics and 4 performers. According to Norkus, this composition is inspired by the philosophy of one of the most prominent Lithuanian thinkers, Arvydas Šliogeris. In addition to Norkus, the premiere performance of Philanropy will feature Normantas Macas, Gabrielius Songaila, Denis Vysokovych.
In the second part of the evening, a special concert will be given by the old-timers of jazz, improvisational and contemporary music who will be working with the students in the ContemPlay workshop - Santiago Quitans, Michael Francis Duchs, Christian Windfeld, Arnas Mikalkėnas and Liudas Mockūnas.
This powerful quintet combining Lithuania, Denmark, Norway and Spain has a wealth of experience.
