National Vegetable is a domestic tragicomedy about our daily lives and the problems we face or live with. This is a play about where we sometimes get stuck, from which we often cannot get out. The three heroes of the play are simple, poor people hoping for a miracle. Ordinary, "to the bone" familiar details, sounds and actions, pop music coming from the neighbors' yard, online tips on how to be positive.
How to live in a society that does not give chances? What kind of effort does it take to survive in constant deprivation? How much does the "therapy" of unrealizable dreams or illusions save? Every problem has three ways of solving it: accept that it won't happen any other way, adapt so that you don't suffer anymore, and get out of the painful situation. Which one do you usually choose?
The life of people revolving in a routine, surrendering to circumstances and believing that you can't change anything, turns us into vegetables. The authors of the play invite you not to become vegetables and encourage you to change your environment: stop blaming the circumstances and give in to them, stop blaming each other, and rather take decisive decisions and change your life into a dignified, effective coexistence. The project is financed by the Lithuanian Council of Culture.
