Nestor Kyzenko graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tbilisi (Sakartvelo) in 1956 and immediately after his studies he joined the art scene of his native Ukraine with his colourful canvases. He was particularly close to rural scenes, as he himself came from the countryside - he was born in the beautiful Byzhsky parish of Nedrigailovsky district. He painted landscapes, everyday life in the countryside of his native land, still lifes and portraits. His canvases depict hundreds of monuments of Ukrainian culture, in particular churches, which makes his works valuable not only in artistic but also in historical terms. In 1969 Nestor Kyzenko became a laureate of the Ukrainian State Prize for Fine Arts, and since 1981 he has devoted himself to his work as an art teacher and lecturer. In Ukraine, the artist is known as the "Soul of Rural Landscape". The artist has held exhibitions in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, as well as in Tbilisi. His works are preserved in the museums of Sumy and Kyiv I. Gonchar. His most famous works include "T. T. Shevchenko's Portrait, Morning Fog, First Snow, Water Mill, Kobzarius, Holodomor, etc. Outside his home country, the painter became famous for his painting "The Death of Hunger", which reflects the tragic events in Ukraine. "The exhibition will be on view at the Laiptai Gallery (Žemaitės str. 83, Šiauliai) until 5 March.
