The play "The God of Slaughter" by the famous French playwright Yasmina Reza is a global hit that has brought the author many prestigious awards. in 2006 the written play quickly became popular on both sides of the Atlantic, and was recently staged on cinema screens (director - R.Polianskis).
"Skerdynyų dievas" is a witty comedy enriched with subtle humor, depicting a rather domestic situation that is easily recognizable to many of us. One afternoon, two intelligent couples meet to discuss a fight between their children, during which one boy's tooth was knocked out. In the beginning, polite and civilized communication gradually takes on an increasingly harsh tone. In the middle of the meeting, the coffee is replaced by rum, and then the hatred and even aggression hidden under the external gloss and decency of the couple emerges. The author conveys the situation without hiding light irony, but without moralizing. Although at first glance the content of the comedy seems quite simple and even banal, in fact there are many deeper layers hidden in it. Y. Reza's subtle and incomparable humor satisfies even the most discerning audience. Her work is often described as a synthesis of tragedy and comedy, thereby defining a completely new genre that reflects the challenges of modern society.
The sparing dialogues and the subtext that unfolds in them leave a lot of room for actors' improvisation. Therefore, acting skill and suggestiveness play the first violin in this play.
