"Broken Heart Story" is the story of a woman and her soul. The main character is a male writer whose soul is her complete opposite - distracted and hungry for love. Both the artist and her soul are constrained by the attitudes and expectations of the world around them, both of them seek to unite, but this is only possible in the imagination, when the writer is visited by inspiration.
Broken Heart Story is a story of art and love. The surrounding world is examined here primarily through the character's inner reality. The play deals with questions of identity, choice, and looks for ways to live in order to become happy. The show offers no answers or advice. On the contrary, it paints a poetic, absurd picture full of questions.
Still, the melancholy world of Broken Heart Story simmers with humor and levity in dealing with life's essential questions. Underneath the naïve style is an appreciation of modern society, which is primarily revealed by the female characters. “To be a subject or an object?” asks a mustachioed woman, holding a cat's skull in her hand.
The play has been translated into English, Danish, Estonian, Czech and Greek, and has been staged several times in Finland, as well as by Ingenue Theatre, which is based at the Center For Performance Research in New York.
