The exhibition "The Bay" is a consistent continuation of the artist's creative explorations and games. In his artistic practice, Tauras Kensminas often returns to the theme of water as a kind of boundless and intangible substance that surrounds everything and is essential for sustaining life.
"Ever since I became conscious of myself, I have always felt an inexplicable attraction towards water. The fear of the dark depths and the realisation that water is a prerequisite for existence have always been side by side in my consciousness. At the same time, the concept of water as a path is important. Theoretically, travelling on (and along) the water, one can find oneself almost anywhere on earth. It is a road that cannot be destroyed - you can change the course of a river or dam it up, but the water will still find a way to get through."
- Tauras Kensminas
The themes of the relationship between civilisation and nature, and the way it changes, remain at the same time important in this exhibition. It reveals visions of dreams, a sense of threat and a post-apocalyptic world, as well as a distinctive brutal aesthetics, created by the artist experimenting with different materials, looking for unexpected possibilities of their use. However, while in Tauras Kensminas's previous exhibitions the moods of anxiety and uncertainty were only hinted at, in "The Bay" the themes of survival and extinction have become clearer, much more openly expressed, but retaining a metaphorical, enigmatic way of telling a story with images.
