October 18th, 6pm. Kaunas Philharmonic (E. Ožeškienės g. 12) will host an unforgettable concert that will leave no one indifferent and will preserve the feeling of a wonderful and bright celebration for long.
Marialy Pacheco, already well-known and loved by art lovers, has performed several times in Lithuania together with excellent percussionists: Moroccan Rhani Krija (from the Sting band) and Colombian Miguel Altamar, and this time she will be performing together with the talented and original trumpeter Joo Kraus from Germany. Marialy, born in Cuba, is a piano prodigy and looks like a supermodel! (
Jazz critics write about her: "She can play classical music, she loves blues, Monk and Ellington and she can swing like 100 devils!"
Marialy Pacheco plays the way she looks - amazing! Those who think it's just a musical-geographical component, just Cuba and the Caribbean, and expect her to interpret salsa are wrong. Marialy Pacheco has a distinctive
"percussive" style that is immediately reminiscent of Keith Jarrett and creates melodic lines that
arise from the manner of Oscar Peterson's performance."
It is impressive the way she weaves the percussion into the swing, while retaining a wonderful softness of touch, creating depth and a sparkling pleasure. No wonder she was the first woman to win the prestigious Montreux Jazz Piano Competition and the first jazz pianist in the world to be officially named "Bösendorfer Artist". Her concert programme includes original music as well as arrangements of works by composers such as Eliseo Grenet, Ernesto Lecuona and others.
A chance encounter with trumpeter-virtuoso Joo Kraus was a particular success. Kraus came from another jazz planet, with a funk-jazz, club music sound in his element. At the age of 19 he won first prize in the German national competition "Jugend Musiziert". In the early 1990s, he and bassist Helmut Huttler formed the world-famous hip-hop duo Tab Two. The use of computer-programmed effects was a breakthrough in music at the time, especially in jazz.
Joo Kraus recorded an album in Havana inspired by Cuban rhythms called "Sueño" and arranged Michael Jackson's songs in a sophisticated jazz style, while maintaining his respect for the King of Pop's work!
2013. He won the Echo Jazz Award for best trumpet player, his sixth award from the German Jazz Association - the "Golden Disc" for his solo album "Public Jazz Lounge"!
Marialy Pacheco and Joo Kraus' musical encounter on one stage is an explosion of passion, emotion, and amazing and creative energy!
In Mariala's own words, "This unique combination creates a fresh, new sound that results in a fusion of traditional Cuban music, Afro-Cuban rhythms, contemporary European music, and a jazzy musical fantasy.
