 For some, they were horrifying; for others, they became a symbol of freedom and rebellion. Bonnie, a bored waitress, falls in love with Clyde, a man with a criminal past. The couple embarked on a violent series of robberies and thefts with tragic results. Between 1950 and 1960, Hollywood was in crisis, as it became increasingly difficult to attract audiences to cinemas. Hollywood's old-timers were forced to rethink their strategy and turn to young, innovative, risk-averse directors. This paved the way for the emergence of the American New Wave. One of the first films that heralded the Hollywood renaissance was Arthur Penn's Bonnie and Clyde.
