Jazz Cellar 11 is happy and proud to present a living jazz legend - Jerry Bergonzi (USA)
Jerry Bergonzi, born in 1947, first gained recognition while performing with the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Bergonzi's complex, determined tenor sax improvisations brought a bit of modernity to Brubeck's usual style, but the young musician soon began to feel unsatisfied. After returning to Boston in 1978 and forming the ensemble Con Brio, Bergonzi quickly became part of the center of the local jazz scene. Staying true to his do-it-yourself approach, he spent the next decade establishing himself as a concert and recording musician on the international jazz scene, as well as gaining popularity as a teacher, later publishing the Inside Improvisation series of educational books. He performed with musicians such as Dave Brubeck, Mike Stern and Joey Calderazzo Bergonzi has recorded for Blue Note Records and Savant Records and has toured Europe, China, the US and Africa for over a decade and has recorded 10 albums and counting.
