Lyapis Trubetskoy's career began in 1998, but gained special attention after he started writing sharp songs, focusing on political themes and criticizing the dictatorship. For this, the group was not only censored, but also expelled from Belarus.
Lyapis Trubetskoy has been on the list of banned groups in Belarus since 2010, and in Russia since 2015. In the same year, the leader of the group, Serhiy Mikhalok, was charged with insulting the president in Belarus and inciting ethnic hatred in Russia.
In 2014, after 24 years of playing music, the Lyapis Trubetskoy group announced their breakup. After sold-out concerts in Kyiv and St. Petersburg, it was announced that the group was splitting into two projects, Trubetskoy and Brutto. Today, many fans of the group are rejoicing, because after an eight-year break, Lyapis Trubetskoy has resumed concert activities.
Already on April 11, at the Compensa concert hall in Vilnius, the Lyapis Trubetskoy support concert for Ukraine will feature all the greatest hits and songs that have become anthems of the Belarusian and Ukrainian struggle for freedom: "Belarus Freedom", "Ne Bytsʹ Skotam", "Hray", "Voyny Sveta" and many others.
