Next year, on Friday, April 5, Vilnius will be painted black by the project "ME AND THAT MAN", carved in the style of dark folk/blues/Americana. This is the solo project of Adam "Nergal" Darski, also known as the leader of the scandalous black metal band "Behemoth". Nergalas has once again signed a pact with the devil and in Lithuania, Menų Fabrika LOFTAS will present the latest album of the project "New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.2".
Scandalous personality
Nergal (née Adam Michał Darski) was born in Gdynia, grew up in a Catholic environment and started playing the guitar at the age of eight. The stage name Nergal is a Babylonian deity, the god of war, whose role in iconography is illustrated by such attributes as the dagger and the bow.
Having founded the black metal band "Behemoth" as a teenager, in 2010 Nergal was tried in Poland on charges of blasphemy for publicly insulting religion. in 2007 he tore up a Bible during a concert and argued in court that it was artistic expression, arguing that it was not meant to be an offensive act. He also argued that freedom of speech should take precedence over religion in Poland. However, he was threatened with up to two years in prison for tearing the Bible, but in 2010 June 28 the charges against Nergal were dropped.
Other performances
The performances of "Behemoth" and "ME AND THAT MAN" can be said to be radically different, but in some ways very similar. Different, of course, primarily in terms of musical expression and its presentation paradigms. The mission of the first project is to glorify Satan with black metal, when "ME AND THAT MAN" sounds uncharacteristically melodious, sometimes even dizzying and romantic, and immerses you in a state of black meditation.
"ME AND THAT MAN" on stage, unlike Nergal's black metal side project, does not use corpsepaint, leather stage costumes and avoids the already mentioned, scandalous acts of Bible theft. On stage, they are like devilish gentlemen of love, dressed in stylish black suits, hats and, as with "Behemoth", they do not deny their love to Satan.
The latest album with a bunch of iconic names
"ME AND THAT MAN" third studio album "New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.2", released in 2021. November 19 Napalm Records - Follow-up to previous project New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.1 (2020). The new and refined record leads on dizzying detours, which Nergal lights with fuel in both hands.
Here again, heavy music icons are abundant, which takes the record to completely different heights. Names such as Gary Holt (Slayer, Exodus), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God), Doug Blair (W.A.S.P) and Olve Abbath Eikemo (Immortal, Abath) weave the album's mesmerizing occult a collection of hymns. "New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.2" marks another breathtaking symbiosis of unfiltered blues, gothic folk, country essence and a touch of evil, which most likely was poured straight from hell or the blackest church.
First time in Vilnius
For all the above-mentioned reasons, it probably goes without saying that on Friday, April 5 next year, at the Art Factory LOFTAS, not only will a romantic hell be ignited, but churches will be burned in the imagination and wishes sent to the devil. However, one of the most interesting concerts of next year will take place in Lithuania with Adam "Nergal" Darski's already cult project "ME AND THAT MAN".
