S'ANATOMIA is an immersion into Čiurlionis's painting, involving the present moment, allowing the observer to create the abstractions of his imagination and giving a surreal sense of cosmicity.
It is a 12-part cosmological opera, the musical basis of which is drone music. The opera was created by young generation composer Mantvydas Pranulis, who received the M.K. Čiurlionis scholarship for its creation. Responding to the most current musical trends, the composer of s'anatomy aims to combine archaism with innovative musical and philosophical archetypes."For me, as a composer, Čiurlionis is probably the closest creator of our nation, both aesthetically and philosophically. The form and soundscape of this performance are based on the paintings of the Čiurlionis cycle "Zodiakas" and its close abstractism - both visual and acting decisions give meaning to the Čiurlionis symbolism," says composer Mantvydas Pranulis, the author of the piece. The cosmological opera continues KOSMOS THEATRE's creative quest in creating and developing an original Lithuanian visual theater, basing the theatrical action not on psychologized dramaturgical vicissitudes of character relationships, but on the priority of music and sound design, developing the concept of audio-visual as an inseparable unit of audio and video. Composer Mantvydas PRANULIS has been nominated for the Golden Stage Cross as one of the most significant works of 2021 for the creation of the experiential contemporary opera "S'Anatomy".
