Saint George's, Kaiser's, Adam Mickiewicz's, Stalin's, Lenin's - that's how many of the official names of Vilnius' main street - Gediminas Avenue - have changed. And then there's the hippie name of Brod and the stories of the youth of those times! The almost 2-kilometre-long street, now in its second century, has seen a lot: the destruction of cabbage gardens, the shoes of the Tsar's subjects, pompous military parades, riots and executions, kermos and circus tents, the fall of Soviet idols and the barricades of freedom. This tour will look at the buildings where some of the most important historical events took place, but we won't forget the shops and cafés of the past on the street - you'll find out where Vilnius residents bought their chocolate, and where they drank "small, black, traditional". We will tell you the most interesting stories of the people who lived here and, of course, point out unique details that you may not have noticed before.
