Have you ever heard the saying that you can meet a sparrow and a Lithuanian everywhere? Indeed, if we search in many parts of the world, we will find Lithuanian footprints, and the latest exhibition of the House of History, "Lithuania of the World's Size", follows them.
When we meet as if we are travellers in time and space, we will find ourselves in various parts of the world where our compatriots have landed from ships, trains and planes over the last 150 years. You will also hear many stories about people whose work, achievements and inventions you may have heard of, but whose Lithuanian roots are a surprise. For example, John Lennon himself played a guitar made by Tonis Žemaitis. Karolis Bučinskis' gaze stirred the hearts of Hollywood fans, and his handprints can be found on the Walk of Fame, albeit under the pseudonym of Charles Bronson. Judith Vaitukaitis's invention, the pregnancy test, is credited by many women around the world. And Karolis Bobko, who has been in space, only heard about his Lithuanian origins after his retirement. English gentlemen would certainly look less handsome if it wasn't for Moshe Osinski from Anykščiai. Meanwhile, the Cadillac producers remained grateful to Juozaps Jonas Tumelis. And the real name of Johnny Unitas, the legendary American football player, who even has a statue in Baltimore, was Jonas Konstantinas Jonaitis.
Some of them set off in search of adventure, some in search of a better life, some in search of love, and some on the run from the regime or themselves. However, we will see that even after putting down roots abroad, most of the diaspora did not forget Lithuania - they were its voice in the West during the occupations and helped to build an independent Lithuania.
The stories in the exhibition "Lithuania the Size of the World" will be told by the guide Anna, whose life has also been changed by migration.
