Event description
"Lorem Ipsum is a fictitious, illogical text made up of a random jumble of words. It is designed to look at the font and the layout of the page without paying attention to the meaningful content. It is a text that is intended not to be read and, if read, not to be understood. Today's world is full of information overload, which makes it difficult to distinguish between what is true, what is false, what is relevant and what is completely irrelevant. It is very easy to get completely lost and unable to digest the flow of information we are confronted with. Living in this constant jumble of images, content and subtexts, we are only able to understand fragments of the whole, so I am beginning to ask myself, is this all just Lorem Ipsum? If the multitude of information that we are exposed to does not really have a common message, but is just a random jumble of images and content, then why confine ourselves to specific stories and their integrity? Why not give in to this overload? In my series of paintings, I am not looking for a specific narrative, a clear theme or a style, but for a way to convey the noise of information that surrounds me. "By "overloading" myself with random illustrations found in scrap paper, I am trying to form a new patchwork of intertwined images, which would invite the viewer to reflect on their relationship to image recognition, to look for fragments close to them in this jumble of images and to try to engage with this noise of images that I have created. (Benas Matijošaitis) The exhibition will be on view at Vartai Gallery (Vilniaus str. 39, Vilnius) until 14 June.
