The characters Domas and Tomas, created by one of our country's most popular children's writers Tomas Dirgela, come out of the pages of their books and invite children and their parents to meet them in the musical Domas and Tomas: The Case of the Missing Characters. The main characters will be played by professional actors and singers - Simonas Storpirštis, Šarūnas Januškevičius, Oneida Kunsunga, Lina Rastokaitė, Tomas Žaibus, and Tomas Žaibus, the author of the incredible stories of Domas and Tomas, Tomas Dirgėla.
"Just as it is always fun for me to step out of the usual framework of a children's writer, it will also be interesting for my characters to step out of the usual pages of book characters - both they and the audience coming to the musical will see each other in a completely different environment, completely different, much more alive, even - singing. And Dom, Tom and the other characters will be able to hear the readers applauding for the first time, because they have never met a fan in person before!" -
The story of the musical, by the way, will also tell the story of how the young detectives, who are not afraid of dangers, decide to explore the world outside the books - but when they embark on a new adventure, the children end up in the middle of a new world... trapped.
Tomas Dirgėla will be working on both sides of the new children's musical - both on stage and throughout the creative process.
"It's always fun to see not only the end result, but also how it's going to happen, from the script, to the rehearsals, to the role on stage, to the performance of the musical in the stages of the cities of Lithuania," he says. The writer adds that although he is not new to writing for the stage, this time he had to think about the songs as well as the usual dialogue. But he enjoys doing that too - in his spare time, Dirgėla plays and sings with another writer friend.
The Children's Literature Prize-winning author is convinced that the team behind the musical are true professionals. He has always found big projects like this difficult, but the preparations for the premiere of "Dom and Tom" are going quickly and very smoothly.
"I am most excited about the team's trust, both in putting the script and songs in my hands, and in the offer to perform on stage myself. And when you get that kind of trust, you automatically want to do the best you can."
