Dainius Kazlauskas, who returned to the theatre scene after a break of almost 12 years just last year, presents his latest work - the musical play "Resort Romance", in which he will also star together with famous Lithuanian actors. The story will tell the story of a relationship between a man and a woman and will take the audience to the second half of the last century, to a city where almost everyone has warm memories and sentiments - Palanga.
"I have written a play in order to put on a performance that will feature one of my favourite songs - Danutė Neimontaitė's "Juodas garvežys" (Black Garage). To be honest, I wanted to do something that would bring me back to that feeling of my childhood, when I would come home on rainy Sundays, wrap myself in a blanket and watch "Song of Songs". I think many of us have a connection to Lithuanian pop songs - in the performance, they will be given a new sound and new arrangements will be created. I really wanted to put on a performance dedicated to that period of the second half of the 20th century," says Kazlauskas.
According to the director, there will be a lot of intrigue and laughter in the performance, but the narrative will still revolve around the fundamental values of love, closeness, respect, and openness to each other, so everyone will find familiar emotions and experiences. The performance "Resort Romance" will also be laced with sentiments from times gone by.
"For some it will be beloved songs, for others - details of clothing, for others it will be the words that were popular in those times, but are almost unheard of nowadays, such as 'to give away', that will bring a smile to their faces," says Kazlauskas. -
The two-person play will alternate between actress Lina Rastokaitė, Renata Kutinaitė, Andrius Povilauskas and the director Dainius Kazlauskas himself. "Andrius is an old good friend of mine, we've worked together a lot, Renata and I have a long-standing working affinity for each other, and I was the first one to offer the role to Lina, back when I was still writing the play. It's great to bring together such talented people and make their professional dreams come true together."
D. Kazlauskas admits that after a long time he was a bit anxious to return to acting - he was afraid that he would be disappointed when he returned, but the opposite happened. "I discovered a lot of new things, both as an actor and as a person. I appreciate this experience very much - there is still something to see from a different angle, so as long as I am still able, as long as my body still allows it, I am enjoying it," he says.
