In 2020, a new ensemble will join the Lithuanian music scene - the Cello Club Cello Quintet. It is a collective of five cellists, opening up a broad perspective for the instrument. "The Cello Club features Povilas Jacunskas, Domas Jakštas, Arnas Kmieliauskas, Evaldas Petkus and Rokas Vaitkevičius. "Cello Club is inspired by the homogeneous ensembles that have already gained popularity in Western Europe, becoming ambassadors of both their instrument and their country. All five Cello Club cellists are musicians active on the Lithuanian scene today. "Cello Club is unique in its democratic principle of ensemble functioning, where each of the five members of the ensemble can become a leader and soloist. The name of the ensemble, meaning "cello club", encodes a message of openness, not committing to a single line-up and leaving room for a variety of programmatic and ensemble choices. Audiences should not be surprised to hear Cello Club perform both serious academic music, popular classics and lighter genre pieces, while keeping the humour in mind and reconsidering the boundaries between serious art and entertainment. The Cello Quintet is constantly expanding its repertoire and arranging new works. "The Cello Club's repertoire ranges from romantic composers such as Edvard Grieg, to the most prominent 20th-century composers such as Samuel Barber and Bela Bartok, to contemporary composers such as Arvo Part, Philip Glass, Max Richter, and Lithuanian composers of different generations, such as Anatolijus Šenderovas and Dominykas Digimas.
