German Brass is a world-renowned brass ensemble known for its virtuoso performances and innovative interpretations. Founded in 1974, the ensemble started as a quintet but later expanded to ten members to include a variety of wind instruments such as trumpets, trombones, valtornas, tuba and sometimes percussion. The ensemble has succeeded in creating "diversity in unity", i.e. in creating a miracle, creating a unique collective sound unlike anything else, with ten individualists and famous soloists from the outstanding first-class German orchestras. As an ensemble they play transparent chamber music, but with the symphonic grandeur and dynamism that only brass instrumentalists can create.
German Brass' repertoire includes all stylistic trends and types from Scheidt to Shostakovich, from Dixieland to Bossa Nova. The ensemble's concerts are professional and entertaining, and overcome the division into two musical styles: the programmes include arrangements of classical works, as well as adaptations of timeless pieces and compositions that were mostly arranged and composed especially for German Brass as a tribute to the ensemble's typical sound and technical brilliance.
Ensemble members: Matthias Höfs (trumpet), Uwe Köller (trumpet), Andre Schoch (trumpet), Manuel Mischel (trumpet), Johannes Dengler (French horn), Klaus Wallendorf (French horn), Fritz Winter (trombone and euphonium), Emil Haderer (trombone), Uwe Füssel (bass trombone), Stefan Ambrosius (tuba), Herbert Wachter (drums).
The concert is supported in part by the Goethe Institute in Lithuania.
The artistic director of the festival is Robertas Šervenikas, laureate of the Lithuanian National Prize, conductor.
