The contemporary circus performance InTense is inspired by the principle of "visualisation of forces", which can be seen in architecture, human anatomy and the structure of society. In all these areas and structures, one can find expressions of tensile and compressive forces that are either in equilibrium - dynamically counterbalancing each other; or reaching equilibrium - creating movement. Together, these forces create an adaptive, resilient structure that bends rather than breaks (the best and most familiar example is our own bodies). This work explores staying in equilibrium, reaching breaking points, and returning back to a state of balance. The authors drew inspiration from the metamodernism movement to create this work. A quote from the Metamodern Manifesto: "...a precarious state between and beyond irony and sincerity, naivety and knowledge, relativism and truth, optimism and doubt, pursuing many different and elusive horizons. We must go forward and oscillate!"
