✝Event description
Series of events "Preserved Harmonies in the 20th Century" with musicologist Viktoras Gerulaitis and listening to recordings. This time we meet the music and colourful life of Francis Poulenc (1899-1963).
He was known as a cheerful villager, yet he was the most Parisian of the French. He grew grapes and was certainly not like a water drinker. He was a "dandy" of the post-war era and a "peasant poet". Composer of velvety and refreshing harmonies, Francis Poulenc was all Mozart and Stravinsky, Parisian folklore and the Catholic Church, the fresh air of the countryside. It is no wonder that the genre of his music is wide and varied: from musicals to the mystical "Litany to the Black Virgin Mary", from the light and sad Sonata for two pianos to the intoxicating waltz for voice, "The Ways of Love"...
We will be able to delve into this topic together with Viktoras Gerulaitis, listen to the musical testimonies of this dramatic period, and maybe even discuss these still topical issues in the project of the Music Magic Club "Preserved Harmonies in the 20th Century".
