Event description

Series of events "Preserved Harmonies in the 20th Century" with musicologist Viktoras Gerulaitis and listening to recordings. This time we meet the music and colourful life of Francis Poulenc (1899-1963).

He was known as a cheerful villager, yet he was the most Parisian of the French. He grew grapes and was certainly not like a water drinker. He was a "dandy" of the post-war era and a "peasant poet". Composer of velvety and refreshing harmonies, Francis Poulenc was all Mozart and Stravinsky, Parisian folklore and the Catholic Church, the fresh air of the countryside. It is no wonder that the genre of his music is wide and varied: from musicals to the mystical "Litany to the Black Virgin Mary", from the light and sad Sonata for two pianos to the intoxicating waltz for voice, "The Ways of Love"...

We will be able to delve into this topic together with Viktoras Gerulaitis, listen to the musical testimonies of this dramatic period, and maybe even discuss these still topical issues in the project of the Music Magic Club "Preserved Harmonies in the 20th Century".

I'm interested in music - these are evenings of encounters with music, hosted by interesting "companions" - musicologists, musicians, music-lovers - admirers of a particular genre, composer, instrument, artist or country's musical culture. They talk about the peculiarities of this music, give live demonstrations, and select characteristic recordings for listening. The recordings are reproduced in high quality from vinyl records or high-resolution digital files, allowing you to feel the specific emotional content, appreciate the nuances of the performance, and uncover the depths of this music.
Music Magic Club hosts events to enjoy a wide range of music, both live and reproduced from recordings
