"WE DIDN'T AGREE" is an experiential audiovisual performance that brings together the Deaf community and professional performers from the hearing world. Music, video art, Deaf sign language creativity and a unique aural experience meet here.
For the first time ever, original works created during the lifetime of the project will be presented on the stage of "Menų spaustuvės", including sign language poetry lyrics and songs written in both Lithuanian Sign Language and international sign languages, as well as in spoken English and Lithuanian and spoken languages, with original music accompanied by a live sound band.
This performance is a proposal to take a fresh look at what language is and to ask ourselves if we are really listening only with our ears?
Artistic Director and initiator of the project Dominykas Vaitiekūnas, 2020. After starting his research on the Deaf community and music, and learning about the Deaf tradition of imitative song, he invited the community members not only to imitate the songs already created by hearing people, but also to immerse themselves in the extremely interesting world of creativity, which unites two seemingly opposite worlds: sound and silence, Deaf and hearing, perfection and reality, yours and the other.
