This is a play for teenagers about topics relevant to this age group. "Ruletė" is created by director and choreographer Jo Strømgren, already well known in Lithuania. LNDT 2018 his play "Durys" won even four Golden Crosses of the Stage awards and is still a favorite of the audience.
In the new play Rouletė, attention is focused on the theme of psychotropic substances and their effect, blurring the boundaries between reality and illusion. According to research, almost a fifth of Lithuanian teenagers have tried narcotic substances, in some cases they are distributed and used even in schools. It is clear that such a topic is really relevant for this age category. However, the performance will not declare the only indisputable position, rather it will aim to raise the question of what reasons lead to drug use, about freedom of choice and responsibility, about the role of reality and the illusory world in the life of a maturing personality, and finally the performance will raise very universal considerations about the era, in which we live, social, cultural, geopolitical aspects of our world today.
The action of "Roulette" takes place in the customs office, where one day a tiny mistake puts the entire customs parcel department in an unenviable situation and spins a carousel of the most unexpected events.
"We take calculated risks in life. The cautious may experience boredom or a certain monotony, while the bold ignore any boundaries. Fortunately, each of us can choose. But what happens when someone else takes the risk for you? The play will talk about drugs and their effects on the human mind, but in general, it will consider the consequences of making risky decisions. With this stage work, together with the creative group, we will aim to create a wide field of associations and interpretations, which allows us to look at the story of the play from various perspectives - the actualities of our Western daily life or the geopolitical and socioeconomic processes of the wider world", says Jo Strømgren.
