Every Christmas brings a miracle, and every toy has its own story. This year, to celebrate the Christmas holidays, we're giving our youngest viewers the beautiful story of Edward the porcelain rabbit. Based on the world-famous children's novel "The Extraordinary Journey of Edward Tiulein" by American author Kate DiCamillo, the play imaginatively and powerfully tells the story of a porcelain rabbit who learns to love, a story that is akin to a Christmas miracle.
In the play, you'll get to know the rabbit Edward Tiulein, a handsome china toy that is in love with its owner, a girl called Abilene. But Edward the rabbit does not know how to love. Although Abilena shows Edward great respect and affection, he thinks only of himself and is always enjoying his good looks. But one fateful day, he falls overboard into the sea. After 297 days at the bottom of the ocean, Edward is thrown ashore and is pulled out of the fishing net by passing fishermen. Thus begins the porcelain rabbit's great journey towards love. Through his long wanderings, Edward changes the lives of the characters he meets and learns to love and long for them. Edward's journey takes him not only far from home, but also far from who he once was.
What does it mean to love? Compassion? To long for? Opening our hearts to others often makes us not only happy but also vulnerable. Along with joy, we let in anxiety, worry, longing and sometimes even pain. But anyone who has ever loved knows that it is when our hearts swell with love that we feel most alive. The wonderful tale of Edward the mischievous rabbit teaches us that a loving heart sometimes breaks, but all feelings grow us, and indifference turns us into cold porcelain dolls.
The story of Edward the rabbit's extraordinary journey is told through spectacular early 20th century costumes and sets, puppetry, and live songs and dances. This performance will enchant the hearts of children and adults alike with the spirit of Christmas, reminding them once again that "if you don't intend to love or to be loved, then the whole journey is pointless".
After the performance, the children will have a chance to meet Santa Claus!
