On 2 December last year, the world celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Maria Anna Cecilia Sophia Kalogeropoulos. Born to a Greek immigrant family in New York, the girl became famous under the name of Maria Kalas. And even though the singer known as "The Divine" has been with us for almost half a century (since 1977), she remains one of the most enchanting voices and personalities in the history of opera.
