Event description
By calling the exhibition Resort, the artist not only sums up the location or decadent mood of the landscapes constructed in the paintings, but also the connotation of disappointment or defeat that is implicit in the word as a verb meaning retreat or a grasping for the last opportunity. Looking at the Alpine landscape favoured by existentialists and romantics, one thinks of the end of La Belle Époque and the mood of Stefan Zweig's "Yesterday's World", which suggests parallels between that time and the conflict-ridden world of the present. These thoughts also fuel uncertainty about the sustainability of the existing order. Pleasure, fatigue and anxiety are intertwined, and this contradiction echoes the author's favourite uncertainty of experience. In this context, there is also a light humour and admiration for a situation observed or arranged by the artist. The exhibition will be on view at the Vartai Gallery (Vilniaus St. 39, Vilnius) until 24 December.
