Event description
A postcard is a small, beautiful card that has become, over time, a witness to cultural context and human relationships. Greetings were sent on various occasions: name day, Easter, Christmas. The world's first commercial Christmas card was issued in England in 1843. It shows a family toasting the recipient of the card and reads 'Merry Christmas and Happy New Year'. This innovation quickly spread throughout Europe and became an integral part of the festive season. The exhibition "A Small, Pretty Holiday Card" features a selection of festive cards from various individuals from the 3-4th centuries. Postcards and business cards sent to the composer Juozas Gruodis and his wife Stasei, greeting cards sent to the composer Jonas Dambrauskas. These exhibits are only a small part of the postcards in the CMM collections, reflecting the diversity of greetings and changing traditions that prevailed. The exhibition will be on display at the home of Mikas and Kipras Petrauskas (K. Petrauskas str. 31, Kaunas) until 1 March 2025.
