DESTROYED WILNIUS - a tour of the city that no longer exists!
New Year - new tours! I invite everyone on the first Saturday of 2025 at noon 12:00 for the premiere of my new tour. The topic is not an easy one, so you will have to use your imagination to the best of your ability. We will walk around modern Vilnius and try to see what is not there anymore.
It's no secret that our city is like a patchwork quilt nowadays. On every old street you can see buildings of different eras and styles. We got used to this diversity long ago and can't imagine our city any other way. But Vilnius was not always like this. It has changed radically dozens of times in its history. There were many reasons for that - wars, fires, greed, whims of authorities or fashion. All this has shaped the unique look of our city. But how interesting it is to find in it traces, sometimes hardly noticeable, of the distant and not so distant past. A little imagination with stories and we will be able to see a completely different, already disappeared Vilnius.
On our walk we will explore:
- What was once the largest castle in Lithuania, which consisted of Lower and Upper parts, where besides Kathedra and the restored House of Rulers there were also buildings of the Tribunal, Land Court, bishop's palace, barracks and houses of nobles. There was also the famous Magdalenka - a source of clean drinking water, known to all citizens of that time.
- Where was the big defensive wall of the city with 10 gates, from which except for all the famous Saint Gate not much remains. Let's even try to look at a little-known street of the Wall (there is one in our city).
- castles Radzvillov - gray cardinals of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. There were as many as nine nine palaces of this family in the city, and only one and a quarter remained. But what happened to the rest?
- Let's try to find traces of Gothic Vilnius. That city disappeared forever in the abyss of centuries, leaving us only a pathetic crumb. But what happened to it?
- Let's take a walk through the vanished streets of Black City - that's the name given to the areas of the city where its Jewish population lived compactly. A large and most important part of this city was destroyed by the new authorities. Let's try by force of imagination to restore its appearance.
- The disappeared temples of the city. Now in Vilnius there are as many as 79 of them, but this is not all of them, which decorated it in its time. Let's try to find forever lost.
The excursion will be held in Russian. Participation is free, but your tips are welcome. The number of places is limited, so be sure to register in advance in Paysera Tickets or in private messages.
p.s. If there is bad weather, the tour will still take place, but you should take care of appropriate shoes and clothes. In turn, I promise to treat everyone to a hot drink, prepared according to my own original recipe.
