Guitar duo Rihards Lībietis and Gints Smukais are a fascinating journey through time and space. The two talented guitarists combine a variety of guitar techniques to create calm yet intense pieces that take the listener to mist-shrouded mountain peaks and cascades of raindrops falling through clear blue skies. The concert will be very personal and intimate as the musicians explore what resonates in music, performing both their own original compositions and classic favourites.
Rihards Lībietis is a musician and composer who regularly performs and collaborates with various Latvian artists and bands (Linda Leen, Raimonds Tiguls, The Originals and others). He is also the producer of all Rihards Lībietis Orchestra albums. Two of the band's albums - Scream, Breathe, Cry (2015) and Willful Blindness (2021) - have been nominated for the Latvian Music Recording Award "Zelta Mikrofons". Rihards also composes music for film, theatre and contemporary dance performances, most notably Verpete (2016), Banishment (2013) at the Art Theatre, and The Death of Banny Munro (2017) at the Art Theatre.
Gints Smukais first got acquainted with the guitar at the end of 2008. Since 2011 he started studying composition and percussion in fingerstyle technique. Since then, Gints has been performing regularly both as a solo artist with his own compositions and in collaboration with virtuoso guitarist Ian Ethan Case (USA) and well-known Latvian musicians (Jānis Aišpurs, Jānis Stībelis, MUSIQQ, etc.) both in the academic and popular music scene. Gints also performs internationally. He has released two solo albums, Thaw (2020) and Flourish (2018), as well as contributing to several other albums.
