Vilnius University (VU) choirs "Gaudeamus", "Virgo" and "Pro Musica" (artistic director Rasa Gelgotienė) together with the Vilnius City Ensemble NIKO invite you to listen to the amazing Philip Glass' "Songs From Liquid Days". The concert will take place on October 23, Monday, at 19:30. St. John's Church. Tickets are distributed by kakava.lt.
The three choirs of Vilnius University, led by the distinguished Lithuanian choirmaster Rasa Gelgotienė, present Philip Glass's cycle of 6 works "Songs From Liquid Days" (1978) for the first time in Lithuania. These are arrangements of songs created by 80s pop artists such as Paul Simon, Suzanne Vega, David Byrne and Laurie Anderson, which have become gems of minimalism. This work of the composer is not performed often, but if it is heard, it is in the brightest concert halls of the world.
VU choirs enjoy the opportunity not only to touch the masterpieces of contemporary music, but also to perform a composition together with NIKO (conductor Gediminas Gelgotas) and soloists Aiste Pilibavičiūtė (soprano) and Edgar Davidovičius (tenor). Ensemble NIKO is a string group known for their catchy and original performances, performing progressive classical music by heart, integrating the highest level of string mastery and minimalist visual stage effects into their performances. The joy of making music, originality, courage and exceptional performance quality - all these words fit to describe NIKO (LMAIC, 2023).
NIKO will be joined by pianist Eglė Andrejevaitė, a flute group (conductor Lina Baublytė), a percussion group (conductor Andrius Rekašius) and VU organist Vidas Pinkevičius.
