From the Circus to the Graveyard: The Best Songs of the Tiger Lillies
The godfathers of alternative cabaret, awarded the prestigious "Olivier" theater award, return to Lithuania with a special, never-before-seen program covering the entire period of the group's existence: from the first songs to the unexpected creations of today.
The Tiger Lillies sound is unmistakable. Probably just like looks. Macabre and at the same time comical clown faces, cauldrons and nostalgic clothes - a distinctive mark of the British trio. Famous for their performances, Martyn Jacques, Adrian Stout and Jon Golland are often called "dark cabaret" performers. Texts imbued with surrealism, "dirty" and "uncut" heroes of their songs and unexpected musical turns during the performances take the audience to a completely different world - sarcastic, ironic, but at the same time darkly funny.
With an international reputation as one of the most famous avant-garde bands in the world, Tiger Lillies never cease to amaze, shock and entertain. Their world is dark, peculiar and diverse, with moments of deep sadness, notes of cruel black humor and great beauty. Their songs cover all the dark aspects of life, from prostitution and drug addiction to violence and despair. Their music is a mixture of pre-war Berlin cabaret, anarchic opera and nomadic music, echoing the music stylistics of Bertolt Brecht and Jacques Brel. Such, undoubtedly, will be the concerts representing the whole career period.
"In an ideal world, The Tiger Lillies would represent Great Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest," says The Times.
Whether this is a good description or not can only be appreciated by visiting a concert of the famous British band!
