Event description

"What is the state of love today, in crisis, a victim of doubt, facing AIDS? What are the paths that feelings take, what is the route that feelings take on their journey? If the ability to resist tends to stimulate desire, it seems that the desire to test the course of passion - shaping it for a purpose - ends up elevating love even more."
Angelin Preljocaj
Angeline Preljocaj is one of the most original figures in French contemporary dance. In her search for what is left of the "art of love", Preljocaj turned to the literature of the 17th and 18th centuries, which gave birth to a multitude of rituals and codes of love, from Platonic sublimation to adultery. In this 1994 production for the l'Opera de Paris Ballet, the choreographer, guided by Mozart's magnificent music, creates his own little drama of love intrigue in the three acts of the piece. The question of the dawn of true love is at stake in his cruel chessboard of passions. It is like a French park that becomes the scenery for the action. The costumes in this production are particularly striking, ranging from the most ornate baroque crinolines to the modern, loose costumes of modern dance.
This performance is a co-production of Bayerisches Staatsballett and the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The sets are made in the Bayerisches Staatsballett workshop.
