On the evening of April 27th, Ledisi, the famous American Grammy-winning singer, will reign supreme at the National Kaunas Drama Theatre, presenting a programme dedicated to the repertoire of the legendary singer Nina Simone.
Saturday night's theatre performance will feature Ledisi, an American singer who has been nominated for the prestigious Grammy Awards 14 times.
In 2021, she won the coveted statuette for "Anything For You", which was voted Best Traditional Rhythm and Blues Performance.
"When it comes to contemporary vocalists, there is almost no one in the world who can sing like her. She's one of the world's great vocalists, period," says pop star John Legend.
Ledisi's impressive career, which spans nearly three decades, includes 11 studio albums, two books, numerous awards and several roles in film and television. She has even portrayed one of the most famous gospel singers, Mahalia Jackson, on screen twice.
Ledisi is one of the favourite singers of outgoing US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Her other fans include Prince, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and other pop music icons. She has performed with Dave Matthews, Maxwell, Herbie Hancock, Robert Glasper and other world's brightest stars.
Ledisi's latest work, which she will also present in Kaunas, is the album "Ledisi Sings Nina", where she performs the repertoire of the legendary jazz star Nina Simone.
For this album, which was nominated for a Grammy, the singer has assembled a dream team - the Metropole Orkest and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra from the Netherlands, the renowned arranger and conductor Jules Buckley, and the vocalists Lizz Wright, Lisa Fischer, and Alice Smith.
The project was featured in a television special in the 1920s. In Lithuania, a touring version of the project will be performed with a group of musicians.
