"I write freely, I don't restrict myself to a genre, for me musical theatre is opera, operetta, musical comedy, zingspiel and everything with vocals and acting. The most important thing is the play itself. If you feel in your heart what you want to say or sing, then you are happy or sad, you say "as in life". This is possible if the characters are living people. Then it is clear what each note is about. My music is light, I aim to bring joy and a little sunshine to everyone who needs it." Franz Lehár.
What is this operetta about?
About how the right marriage helps you to become noble.
About how a noble spendthrift can make a pile of money from the same marriage.
How a cleverly conceived marriage adventure is ruined by...love.
And this is more than a hundred years ago - in Paris!

The operetta "The Count of Luxembourg" has not lost its popularity more than a hundred and ten years after its first production, and each new interpretation captivates a new generation of audiences. The world premiere took place on 12 November 1909. "The first performance took place on stage at the Teatr an der Wien in Vienna on November 12, 1917. The libretto reflects the atmosphere of Paris in the first decade of the 20th century and the music of the time. The performance was an astonishing success, with the audience asking for each musical number to be repeated. The first production was performed 300 times. The operetta quickly crossed the borders of Austria, attracted a great deal of attention in European theatres, and later on the world at large.
F. Lehar developed the genre of operetta, which had become popular in the late 19th century, with new rhythms, melodies and characterisations, and created a slightly different type of operetta - the New Viennese operetta. The reform of the genre that he had begun was continued by Imre Kalman.

The operetta "The Count of Luxembourg" was first performed in Lithuania in 1942 at the State Theatre, and then received four more interpretations on the stage of Kaunas - in 1944, 1963, 1985, 2002.
